White House addresses Biden's xenophobic remarks Asian countries

White House clarifies Biden's remarks labeling India, Japan, China, and Russia as "xenophobic," emphasizing importance of immigration to America's strength.

The recent response from the White House to President Joe Biden's controversial statement at a fundraising event has sparked discussions about immigration and economic growth. Biden's remarks labeling India, Japan, China, and Russia as "xenophobic" countries for their reluctance to accept immigrants raised eyebrows. However, White House Press Secretary Karine Jean-Pierre clarified that the President was actually emphasizing the importance of immigration to America's strength.

During a daily press briefing, Jean-Pierre defended Biden's comments, highlighting the significance of being a nation of immigrants and how it contributes to America's overall strength. She assured that America's allies and partners understand the respect Biden has for them. Additionally, Jean-Pierre pointed out Biden's commitment to enhancing diplomatic relations with India and Japan over the past three years.

Biden's comments were made in the midst of criticism from political adversaries and the Republican Party regarding his immigration policies. In response, he emphasized that the US economy's growth is partly due to its welcoming stance toward immigrants. "One of the reasons why our economy's growing is because of you and many others. Why? Because we welcome immigrants," Biden stated, as reported by Reuters.

Jean-Pierre reiterated America's identity as a nation built by immigrants and how this fact strengthens the country. She emphasized, "We are a country of immigrants. That matters. And we've seen these attacks. And so, the President is never going to shy away from that." India and Japan, both part of the strategic security dialogue group QUAD, have strengthened their diplomatic ties with the US through state visits in recent years, underscoring the importance of robust international relations.
