His health took a sharp downturn when he was diagnosed with an MRSA bacterial infection and pneumonia, leading to severe respiratory complications. Despite receiving medical treatment, his condition rapidly deteriorated, necessitating intensive care and life support measures.

Dean, who gained recognition for raising concerns about manufacturing flaws in Boeing's 737 MAX planes, ultimately succumbed to a severe infection. This heartbreaking loss comes just months after another whistleblower, John Barnett, passed away under suspicious circumstances. Despite valiant efforts to save him, including transporting him to a facility in Oklahoma City, medical teams were unable to revive him.

A resident of Wichita, Kansas, where Spirit AeroSystems is based, Dean began his career at the aircraft manufacturer in 2019 after earning a degree in mechanical engineering. Throughout his time at Spirit, he was dedicated to upholding safety standards and ensuring quality control. However, his insistence on stringent inspection protocols ultimately led to his termination in April 2023, following allegations of failing to identify a manufacturing issue that caused a delivery halt for the company.

Dean's whistleblowing efforts extended beyond Spirit AeroSystems, as he accused Boeing of overlooking significant production flaws in Spirit-built 737 MAX parts.
