MLB's most controversial umpire made three consecutive strike calls on pitches well outside the zone during a plate appearance by Rangers rookie Wyatt Langford. These calls were deemed the most impactful missed calls of the game in terms of run expectation changes.

According to UmpScorecards.com, Hernandez had 6.3 fewer correct calls than the average umpire in the game, with only 187 of 205 taken pitches called correctly. The grading website also revealed that six of 150 called balls should have been strikes, and 12 of 55 called strikes should have been balls. The called third strike to Langford missed the plate by a staggering 6.78 inches, marking the largest miss on a strikeout in Umpire Auditor's tracking history.

Langford himself expressed his disbelief at the calls, stating that he should have swung at the next two pitches after the first one was called a strike. This incident is just one in a series of controversies involving Hernandez, who has a history of inconsistent calls and has been the target of criticism from players, managers, and even announcers.

During the game, Rangers' announcers voiced their disbelief at Hernandez's calls, with play-by-play announcer Dave Raymond exclaiming, "You have got to be kidding me!" Analyst Dave Valle added, "This is just bad. Three consecutive pitches well off the plate. That's just so obvious. That was terrible."

Hernandez's track record as an umpire has been marred by controversies, with Umpire Auditor ranking him as the lowest-rated umpire last season. His consistent inconsistencies continue to draw scrutiny and frustration from those involved in the game of baseball.
