u-blox introduces ALMA-B1 and NORA-B2 Bluetooth LE modules with advanced features for IoT applications, including high processing power and security.

u-blox has recently introduced two new additions to its Bluetooth LE lineup, known as ALMA-B1 and NORA-B2. These modules are built on the cutting-edge nRF54 Series Systems-on-Chip (SoCs) from Nordic Semiconductor, supporting Bluetooth LE 5.4 and Thread/Matter technologies in a compact, energy-efficient, and secure package.

ALMA-B1 and NORA-B2 have been specifically crafted for a wide array of IoT applications, ranging from industrial automation to healthcare and smart home solutions. ALMA-B1 serves as a top-tier wireless MCU, while NORA-B2 brings ultra-low power capabilities to simpler applications. For instance, in scenarios like indoor positioning, ALMA-B1's robust processing capabilities make it an ideal anchor point, while NORA-B2's energy efficiency is perfect for asset tracking tags.

Industry experts predict a significant surge in Bluetooth LE device shipments by 2028, driven by the emergence of new applications powered by AI/EdgeML and sensor fusion. This trend underscores the growing demand for enhanced features such as heightened security measures, increased processing power, and efficient battery usage.

Equipped with the nRF54H20 and nRF54L15 Nordic low-power multiprotocol SoCs, ALMA-B1 and NORA-B2 empower IoT devices with the processing power needed for edge computing and machine learning tasks, eliminating the need for additional components. ALMA-B1, boasting more than double the processing power of its predecessors, can even replace general-purpose MCUs in a compact form factor.

Moreover, both modules deliver substantial reductions in power consumption, with NORA-B2 consuming up to 50% less current compared to earlier Bluetooth LE modules. This translates to either smaller batteries or extended battery life in end products.

In terms of security, ALMA-B1 and NORA-B2 are designed to meet PSA Certified Level 3 standards, offering top-notch IoT security features. From secure boot and storage to debug interfaces and hardware crypto accelerators, these modules incorporate advanced security elements like physical tamper detection and protection against side-channel attacks.

Measuring at 10 x 11 mm or 10 x 14 mm, the compact sizes of ALMA-B1 and NORA-B2 save valuable space and ease the transition from other u-blox modules. Both modules come with global certifications and offer two antenna options: an antenna pin or an embedded PCB antenna.

In conclusion, ALMA-B1 and NORA-B2 stand out as wireless MCUs that not only prioritize performance and efficiency but also excel in security and compact design, making them ideal choices for a wide range of IoT applications.
