Oakland A's playing at Sutter Health Park ahead of Las Vegas move

Oakland Athletics to play home games at Sutter Health Park in Sacramento from 2025-2027 before Las Vegas move in 2028.

The Oakland Athletics, along with the Sacramento Kings and the majority owner of the Sacramento River Cats, have revealed their plans for the A's to play their home games at Sutter Health Park from the 2025 through 2027 seasons. This move comes ahead of the team's anticipated relocation to Las Vegas in 2028.

Reports have suggested that Sutter Health Park could potentially continue to be the A's home until the 2028 season as well. This decision serves as a safety net in case any obstacles arise that may delay the team's move to Las Vegas until 2029.

While the A's have secured some flexibility with their upcoming move to Sutter Health Park, it is important to note that their original plan was to relocate to Las Vegas by 2027. However, this timeline may now be pushed back by four baseball seasons if any challenges arise during the construction of their new stadium in Las Vegas.

The last game for the A's in Oakland is scheduled for September 29, 2024, marking the end of an era for the team in the city.

The decision to move to Las Vegas has been met with controversy and tension not only from the city of Oakland but also from MLB and fans alike. A's owner and managing partner John Fisher expressed the challenges faced in reaching an agreement with Oakland for a temporary home, ultimately leading to the decision to move to Sutter Health Park in Sacramento.

During their time in Sacramento, the Athletics will simply be known as the A's without a city attached to their team name.

Sutter Health Park boasts 10,624 fixed seats, but the total capacity for A's games can exceed 14,000 with additional lawn seating and standing room areas.

The A's have seen a decline in attendance in recent seasons, with fans expressing their discontent not only with the team's move to Las Vegas but also with the overall direction of the team in terms of payroll and competitiveness. Despite these challenges, the A's are looking forward to making Sutter Health Park their temporary home until their new ballpark opens in Las Vegas.
