NY Giants signing free agent QB Drew Lock Seahawks

New York Giants sign Drew Lock as backup quarterback, but still considering drafting a franchise quarterback in NFL Draft.

The New York Giants are making moves in the quarterback department, with the recent signing of Drew Lock to a one-year deal worth up to $5 million. Lock, who previously served as a backup for Geno Smith with the Seattle Seahawks, brings experience and depth to the Giants' quarterback room, joining Daniel Jones and Tommy DeVito.

Despite the addition of Lock, the Giants are still evaluating their options for the upcoming NFL Draft, where they hold the No. 6 pick. Their assessment of the quarterback prospects in the Class of 2024 is ongoing, with meetings held with top signal callers at the recent Scouting Combine in Indianapolis. North Carolina's Drake Maye has already visited the Giants for a Top 30 visit, and more visits are expected in the coming weeks.

In addition to their draft preparations, the Giants are likely to schedule private workouts with a select group of quarterbacks and attend their respective Pro Days. The team is also adjusting to the departure of Tyrod Taylor, who signed with the Jets on a two-year deal worth up to $18 million after serving as Jones' backup for the past two seasons.

Lock, who was acquired by the Seahawks in the 2022 Russell Wilson trade, has shown promise in his limited starts, with a 1-1 record last season. With a completion rate of 59.7% and 28 touchdowns to 23 interceptions in his five-year career, Lock brings a competitive edge to the Giants' quarterback competition. As the team continues to strategize for the future, the addition of Lock adds depth and experience to their roster.
