The New York Giants faced a significant loss in free agency with star running back Saquon Barkley departing, but general manager Joe Schoen wasted no time in finding replacements and strengthening the team's offensive line. The Giants agreed to terms with running back Devin Singletary and guard Jon Runyan Jr, bolstering their roster for the upcoming season.

Runyan, who previously played for the Green Bay Packers, signed a lucrative three-year, $30 million contract with $17 million guaranteed. Meanwhile, Singletary, who spent last season with the Houston Texans, secured a three-year deal worth $16.5 million. These signings come as Barkley agreed to join the rival Philadelphia Eagles and safety Xavier McKinney departed for a lucrative deal with the Packers.

Singletary, at 27 years old, showcased his skills by rushing for 898 yards and four touchdowns, along with 30 receptions for 193 yards last season. On the other hand, Runyan, 26, has been a standout guard in the league, particularly excelling in pass protection during his time with the Packers.

The Giants, who struggled in the 2023 season with a 6-11 record, were plagued by a franchise-high 85 sacks, the second-highest in NFL history. Schoen prioritized improving the offensive line, especially the guard positions and right tackle, to provide better protection for the quarterback.

Runyan, a product of Michigan, comes from a football background with his father, Jon Runyan Sr., a former Philadelphia Eagles tackle known for his battles with Hall of Fame defensive end Michael Strahan. Barkley's departure was a significant blow for the Giants, as the team opted not to franchise tag the talented running back.

In addition to these signings, the Giants also retained key members of their special teams, including long snapper Casey Kreiter, leading tackler Carter Coughlin, and returner Gunner Olszewski. These moves aim to strengthen the team in various areas as they prepare for the upcoming season.

The offseason moves made by the Giants under Schoen's leadership signal a shift in the team's direction, focusing on building a competitive roster for the future. With these new additions and returning players, the Giants aim to bounce back from a disappointing season and compete at a higher level in the upcoming year.
