WSSU Rajah Caruth NASCAR Truck Series race win

WSSU senior Rajah Caruth wins first NASCAR Truck Race in Las Vegas, becoming third Black driver in history to win.

This year has been an incredible one for Winston-Salem State senior Rajah Caruth, a racecar driver majoring in Motorsports Management at WSSU. Caruth recently won his first professional NASCAR Truck Race in Las Vegas, grabbing the pole and securing the victory in the Victoria's Voice Foundation 200 presented by Westgate Resorts. His qualifying run of 30.501 seconds earned him his first pole position.

Born in Atlanta and raised in Brooklyn and Washington, D.C., Caruth is now the third Black driver in NASCAR history to claim victory, following Wendell Scott and Bubba Wallace. His father, Roger, is a professor at Howard University. Caruth led 38 laps and scored 17 stage points, facing off against top drivers like Zane Smith, Kyle Busch, and Christopher Bell.

In a post-race interview with Fox Sports, Caruth credited his team's execution and strategy for the win, emphasizing the importance of staying focused and taking it one step at a time. Mentored by Bubba Wallace, Caruth expressed gratitude to his sponsors, team, and family for their support throughout his racing career.

With his recent win, Caruth secured a spot in the playoff field for later this season. He currently ranks fourth in the Craftsman Truck Series standings, just 10 points behind the leader. Balancing academics and racing, Caruth acknowledged the support of Winston-Salem State University and his professors for accommodating his schedule and promoting his achievements.

As he looks forward to graduation in December, Caruth remains grateful for the opportunity to represent WSSU both on and off the track. With 20 more races scheduled in the Truck Series, Caruth's victory in Las Vegas marks a significant milestone in his racing career, showcasing his talent and determination to succeed in the competitive world of NASCAR.
