8 Things Learned Elden Ring Shadow Erdtree

First look at Elden Ring Shadow Of The Erdtree DLC, with new enemies and challenges. Release date set for June 21.

Two years after the highly anticipated release of Elden Ring, fans finally got a glimpse of the upcoming Shadow of the Erdtree DLC. The teaser trailer hinted at cryptic and ghastly elements, promising new challenges for players seeking to expand their Elden Ring experience.

Director Hidetaka Miyazaki, in interviews with IGN and Eurogamer, provided insights into what players can expect from the new adventure. Miyazaki assured hardcore players that optional bosses tuned similarly to the challenging Malenia from the base game will be available. Given Miyazaki's reputation for creating tough boss battles in the Souls series, fans can anticipate a significant level of difficulty in the DLC.

The DLC will continue the story of Miquella, the brother of Malenia, and will explore new areas while figuratively and literally following in the footsteps of the base game. The trailer for the DLC also teased a mysterious shining figure, potentially hinting at the appearance of Marika, the elusive goddess of the Elden Ring world, as a formidable final enemy or optional boss.

The Shadow of the Erdtree DLC will introduce a completely new area separate from the Lands Between, offering a fresh and expanded gameplay experience. Miyazaki mentioned that the new area will occupy the same universe as the Lands Between, potentially leading to a mix of altered-reality versions of existing areas and new locations, similar to Bloodborne's The Old Hunters DLC.

Despite the DLC's hefty price tag of $40, Miyazaki assured fans that the Elden Ring saga may not necessarily end with the release of the Shadow of the Erdtree. While the price has attracted some criticism, Miyazaki's confidence in delivering a compelling experience remains unwavering.

The DLC is set to release on June 21 for various platforms, including Xbox One, Xbox Series X|S, PlayStation 4, PlayStation 5, and PC. With promises of challenging bosses, expansive new areas, and the potential for further expansions in the Elden Ring universe, fans can look forward to an exciting and immersive experience with the Shadow of the Erdtree DLC.
