Simu Liu, known for his role in the Barbie movie, will be hosting the People's Choice Awards in Santa Monica, California. The 34-year-old actor, who is up for a movie performance of the year award, is eager to bring his comedic style to the event, assuring fans that he will not engage in any slander. He also hinted at a possible Barbie reunion at the show, although co-stars Margot Robbie and Ryan Gosling will not be in attendance due to the BAFTAs in London falling on the same day.

Liu, who was born in Harbin, China, and raised in Mississauga, Ontario, recounted his upbringing in his 2022 memoir, "We Were Dreamers: An Immigrant Superhero Origin Story." After graduating from the Richard Ivey School of Business and working for nearly a year at an accounting firm, Liu transitioned to acting, landing his first big screen role as an extra in Guillermo del Toro's film "Pacific Rim."

He gained recognition for his role in the sitcom "Kim's Convenience" and rose to stardom as the lead in Marvel's "Shang-Chi and the Legend of the Ten Rings" before playing a Ken in the 2023 Barbie movie. Liu, who has also done stunt work and written and made his own short films, has amassed a net worth of $4 million and is an ambassador for UNICEF Canada and KultureCity, a charity that promotes neurodiversity.

Beyond his acting career, Liu has been an outspoken advocate for anti-Asian hate and the need for more diversity and Asian representation in Hollywood. He has been recognized for his influence, making it onto the TIME100 list of the 100 most influential people in the world in 2022 and hosting the 2023 Juno Awards and TIME's gala that year. He has also appeared as a guest host on "Jimmy Kimmel Live" and is currently dating Allison Hsu, a senior manager in digital marketing for Interscope Records.
