Trump lawyer Alina Habba NY fraud verdict: They will not get away with it

Trump's lawyer vows to fight after judge orders him to pay $355 million in fraud case. New York AG praises ruling.

Alina Habba, a lawyer for former President Trump, strongly criticized a judge's recent decision in Trump's New York civil fraud trial on Friday. Speaking on Fox News' "Hannity," Habba vowed to fight back against the ruling, stating, "We will come at them, we will come hard, and we will literally fight until the truth comes out. There was nothing wrong. President Trump has done nothing wrong."

The ruling by Judge Arthur Engoron ordered Trump to pay nearly $355 million in penalties, following Engoron's previous finding of Trump's liability for fraud in September. The case was filed by New York Attorney General Letitia James in 2022, alleging that Trump manipulated asset values for tax and insurance benefits.

Habba emphasized that Trump and his legal team are determined to challenge the ruling, declaring, "I think the biggest message I can give the American people tonight is that he's not gonna get away with it. Letitia James is not gonna get away with it. The Biden administration is not gonna get away with it."

Habba's statements on Fox News echoed those she made in a statement to The Hill, where she described the ruling as "manifest injustice" and the result of a "multi-year, politically fueled witch hunt that was designed to 'take down Donald Trump.'"

In contrast, James applauded the ruling in her own statement, characterizing it as a "tremendous victory for this state, this nation and for everyone who believes that we must all play by the same rules -- even former presidents."

James also asserted that the ruling holds Trump accountable for his actions, stating, "Now, Donald Trump is finally facing accountability for his lying, cheating and staggering fraud. Because no matter how big, rich or powerful you think you are, no one is above the law."
