Pistons Isaiah Stewart arrested for assault, punching Suns Drew Eubanks before game

Isaiah Stewart arrested for assault after punching Drew Eubanks. Phoenix police issued a citation and released him. NBA fight rare.

Isaiah Stewart of the Detroit Pistons was recently arrested for assault after punching Phoenix Suns center Drew Eubanks. According to the Phoenix Police Department, the incident occurred in the parking tunnel of the arena in downtown Phoenix. Stewart was issued a citation and released following the altercation.

The altercation took place around 4:45 p.m. during a Suns home game at Footprint Arena. Phoenix police officers responded to a call about a fight between the two players in the arena's parking lot. Witnesses reported that an argument between Stewart and Eubanks escalated, resulting in Stewart punching Eubanks and causing a minor injury. Both players were separated by security, and Stewart was subsequently arrested for assault.

Following the incident, detectives arrived to investigate and collect evidence. Stewart was issued a citation and released, and the investigation remains ongoing. Suns beat writer Duane Rankin of The Arizona Republic spoke to Eubanks after the incident, who reported that Stewart approached him as he was heading to the Suns' locker room and sucker-punched him.

Fights of this nature are rare in the NBA, especially pre-game altercations. The last notable incident involving a pre-game fight occurred in 2000 when Charles Oakley was suspended for punching Jeff McInnis during a morning shootaround. Stewart, who has been involved in an on-court altercation with LeBron James in 2021, has not played since Jan. 28 due to an ankle injury, but has been traveling with the Pistons on their Western Conference road trip.

The altercation between Stewart and Eubanks is a rare occurrence in the NBA and has sparked an ongoing investigation by the Phoenix Police Department. Both players have been involved in on-court altercations in the past, making this incident even more notable. The NBA will be closely monitoring the situation as it unfolds.
