Mavs acquire F/C P.J. Washington from Hornets - Reports

Dallas Mavericks acquire P.J. Washington from Charlotte Hornets in exchange for Grant Williams, Seth Curry, and draft picks, per reports.

The Dallas Mavericks have made a major move, acquiring forward/center P.J. Washington from the Charlotte Hornets, according to reports from ESPN and The Athletic on Thursday.

In exchange for Washington, the Mavericks will send forward Grant Williams, guard Seth Curry, and a 2027 first-round draft pick to the Hornets. The Athletic also reported that Charlotte will include two second-round picks in the deal.

Washington, who is 25 years old, has played in 44 games this season for the Hornets, starting in 17 of them. He is currently averaging 13.6 points, 5.3 rebounds, and 2.2 assists, with shooting percentages of 44.6 percent from the field and 32.4 percent from beyond the arc.

Over his five NBA seasons, all with Charlotte, Washington has career averages of 13.0 points, 5.5 rebounds, and 2.3 assists in 304 games, with 236 starts. He was selected by the Hornets with the 12th overall pick in the 2019 draft.

As part of the trade, the Mavericks will also part ways with 25-year-old forward Grant Williams, who was in his first season with Dallas after spending the first four years of his career with the Boston Celtics. In his time with the Mavericks, Williams has averaged 8.1 points, 3.6 rebounds, and 1.7 assists in 47 games, with 33 starts.

Guard Seth Curry, 33 years old, is also included in the trade, averaging 4.3 points and 1.4 rebounds this season. He has appeared in 36 games for the Mavericks, with three starts. Throughout his career, which has seen him play for various teams including the Philadelphia 76ers, Brooklyn Nets, and Portland Trail Blazers, Curry has averaged 10.5 points, 2.1 rebounds, and 2.0 assists, with a career 3-point shooting percentage of 43.2 percent.
