India vs England: Yashasvi Jaiswal 179 innings maturity skill beyond 22 years former England cricketer

Yashasvi Jaiswal's brilliant 179-run knock impresses former England cricketer Alastair Cook, but India's batting collapse gets mixed reactions.

Yashasvi Jaiswal's outstanding performance on the first day of the second Test against England in Vizag has garnered praise from former cricketer Alastair Cook. Despite a batting collapse, Jaiswal held India's innings together, scoring an unbeaten 179 runs off 257 balls. His brilliant batting against the English bowlers, including James Anderson and an inexperienced spin attack, helped India bounce back after Rohit Sharma won the toss and chose to bat first.

This was Jaiswal's second Test century, with the first being scored in his debut Test match against West Indies last year. Cook commended Jaiswal's composure and maturity, especially in contrast to the underperformance of other Indian batters. He noted that Jaiswal's innings showed skill beyond his 22 years and highlighted the fragility of India's batting lineup without him.

Cook also advised the English bowlers to dismiss Jaiswal on the second day, suggesting that they should bowl wider to him, despite the risk of leaking runs. The Rohit Sharma-led side scored 336/6 on the first day, with Rehan Ahmed and debutant Shoaib Bashir taking two wickets apiece, and James Anderson and Tom Hartley taking one wicket each. Jaiswal's exceptional performance has kept India's hopes of posting a bigger target alive as the Test match progresses.
