Tyrese Haliburton named 2024 NBA All-Star starter, Iowa State basketball history

Indiana Pacers point guard Tyrese Haliburton named All-Star starter; first Iowa State alum to achieve this honor. Game to air on TNT.

Former Iowa State Cyclone and current Indiana Pacers point guard Tyrese Haliburton has been announced as an All-Star for the second consecutive season, this time earning a spot as one of the five starters for the Eastern Conference. This is a major achievement for Haliburton, as he is the first All-Star starter from Iowa State, and the All-Star Weekend will be held at the Pacers' home court of Gainbridge Fieldhouse in Indianapolis.

The All-Star Game is set to be broadcast on TNT at 7:30 p.m. CT on Sunday, Feb. 18. Haliburton has been having an outstanding fourth NBA season, averaging 23.6 points and a league-leading 12.6 assists in 34 games. His impressive performance has not only earned him recognition across the league but has also helped lead the Indiana Pacers to victory in the inaugural In-Season Tournament championship in December.

Selected 12th overall by the Sacramento Kings in the 2020 NBA Draft, Haliburton was traded to the Indiana Pacers midway through his second season. Remarkably, he has now become an All-Star in both of his full seasons with the Pacers. Additionally, he is one of four Iowa State players currently active in the NBA, alongside Talen-Horten Tucker, Monte Morris, and Georges Niang. The only other Iowa State player to become an All-Star was Jeff Hornacek in 1992.

Joining Haliburton as starters for the Eastern Conference are Damian Lillard (Milwaukee Bucks), Jayson Tatum (Boston Celtics), Giannis Antetokounmpo (Milwaukee Bucks), and Joel Embiid (Philadelphia 76ers). Meanwhile, the Western Conference All-Star starters include Luka Doncic (Dallas Mavericks), Shai Gilgeous-Alexander (Oklahoma City Thunder), LeBron James (Los Angeles Lakers), Kevin Durant (Phoenix Suns), and Nikola Jokic (Denver Nuggets).
