Cam Newton: Falcons Only Team He Would Return to Play For

Cam Newton, former NFL quarterback, hints at a possible comeback to the league, expressing interest in playing for the Atlanta Falcons.

Cam Newton, the former Carolina Panthers quarterback, has a long history of causing trouble for the state of Georgia, dating back to his college days. After leading Auburn to a National Championship, Newton was chosen as the No. 1 overall pick by the Panthers in 2011.

During the following nine seasons, the Atlanta Falcons had numerous confrontations with Newton. However, Newton has been absent from the league for the past two seasons, with his last game being in 2021. The question now arises: would the former NFL MVP consider making a comeback?

As a Georgia native, Newton recently appeared on NFL Network's "Good Morning Football" show and expressed that if he were to return, it would only be to play for the Falcons. "Me having a family now, it's always been about family and I don't see myself leaving Atlanta," Newton stated when asked about a potential return. "If it's not Atlanta, I don't want to."

Newton has an impressive career record, passing for 32,282 yards, 194 touchdowns, and 123 interceptions over his 11-year NFL career. However, his performance declined during his final seasons with the Patriots and Panthers.

Although it may seem unlikely, Newton does have experience playing for Bill Belichick, who is a top candidate for the Falcons' head coach position. Nevertheless, it is difficult to predict the team's future until a new coach is hired.

In other Falcons news, the team has completed a second interview with Rams DC Raheem Morris, and there are seven teams interested in former Falcons coach Arthur Smith as an offensive coordinator. Additionally, the Falcons have requested in-person interviews with two Detroit Lions coordinators, and they are set to hold a second interview with Texans OC Bobby Slowik. The Falcons also made a notable pick in Mel Kiper's first 2024 mock draft, selecting an Alabama EDGE player.
