However, Sayin is just the latest in a string of impact players to leave the program. Alabama has seen a mass exodus of starters, including strong safety Caleb Downs and receivers Isaiah Bond and Malik Benson. Even their starting center, Seth McLaughlin, has departed for Ohio State. Additionally, five-star receiver Ryan Williams de-committed to join rival Auburn Tigers.

In total, 28 former Crimson Tide players have entered the transfer portal, according to Sports Illustrated. While some of these departures occurred before Saban's retirement, the turnover in talent is significant and will undoubtedly leave a void in the team's roster.

The task of rebuilding the program now falls to new head coach Kalen DeBoer. He has a track record of turning programs around, as evidenced by his success at Washington, where he transformed the Huskies from a four-win team to national title runners-up in just two years.

However, the departure of so many key players raises larger questions for Alabama football. The program has long been synonymous with winning, dating back to the days of Bear Bryant. In recent years, Alabama football has been synonymous with Nick Saban, whose recruiting prowess was unmatched. The departure of Saban and the subsequent talent drain mean that the future of Alabama football, both on the field and in the recruiting game, will look very different under DeBoer's leadership.
