Josh Giddey investigation: Everything we know as NBA looks into OKC Thunder guard - Yahoo Sports

Newport Beach Police close investigation into Josh Giddey, NBA review ongoing. Giddey continues to play for Thunder. Here's what you need to know.

The Newport Beach Police Department has officially closed its investigation into the alleged inappropriate relationship between Oklahoma City Thunder guard Josh Giddey and an underage girl in California. The claims surfaced on social media in November and showed a man who appeared to be Giddey with a female, but the exact timing of the photos and video remains unknown. The NBA's review of the situation is still ongoing, and Giddey has continued to play for the Thunder since the anonymous claims were made.

While Giddey will not face charges in California, where the age of consent is 18, the NBA's investigation is still in progress. The Newport Beach Police Department released a statement saying, "Our detectives have reviewed all of the available information and were unable to corroborate any criminal activity related to Mr. Giddey." The league has stated that it will wait for the police investigation to conclude before taking any action.

In an interview with ESPN's "NBA Today," NBA commissioner Adam Silver stated, "I think if you look back, I can't think of many circumstances where we've suspended a player based on an allegation alone." He also mentioned that the league would take a backseat in cases where there is an ongoing criminal investigation, as the player needs to protect their rights.

The Thunder selected Giddey with the No. 6 pick in the 2021 NBA Draft, and he has been a key player for the team. The 6-foot-8 wing has been a standout performer, earning NBA All-Rookie second-team honors in his first season. He has continued to excel in the current season, averaging 11.8 points, 6.1 rebounds, and 4.6 assists per game.

In addition to his success on the court, Giddey's sister, Hannah, has also made a name for herself in the basketball world. She played college basketball at Oral Roberts in Tulsa before transferring to Southern Nazarene in Bethany, where she is currently averaging 12.7 points per game.

As the investigation continues, Giddey remains focused on his performance on the court, and the NBA is closely monitoring the situation. The closure of the police investigation in California has provided some clarity, but the league's review is ongoing.
