HBO's True Detective crime anthology is making a comeback after a five-year hiatus with its fourth season, titled Night Country. The franchise first debuted in 2014 with a highly acclaimed first season starring Matthew McConaughey and Woody Harrellson. The second and third seasons were less well received, but the show is now returning with Night Country.

The new season is set in Alaska and follows detectives Liz Danvers, played by Jodie Foster, and Evangeline Navarro, played by Kali Reis, as they investigate the disappearance of a team at the Tsalal Arctic Research Station. Against the backdrop of the Alaskan winter, the detectives' search will uncover dark secrets in themselves and their town.

The cast also includes John Hawkes, Christopher Eccleston, and Fiona Shaw, with creator Nic Pizzolatto back on scripting duties. True Detective: Night Country premieres on HBO and Max on Sunday, January 14, with subsequent episodes airing weekly on Sundays.

The sixth and final episode, "Part 6," will see Danvers and Navarro confronting their personal demons while uncovering the truth about what happened to the missing researchers and a local activist. The season promises to be a dark and gripping addition to the True Detective anthology.
