HPU MLK Day of Service Events and Worship Service

High Point University students, faculty, and community members are invited to participate in various community service projects on MLK Day 2024.

High Point University is calling on students, faculty, and community members to participate in a wide range of community service projects in honor of Martin Luther King Jr. Day on January 15, 2024. This day of service encourages participants to think beyond themselves and give back to their community. The university is offering a variety of volunteer opportunities, including projects to revitalize local organizations, clean up areas of the city, pack seeds for the community, and assemble care kits for veterans.

In addition to these service projects, HPU will host educational workshops, speakers, and films to highlight the life and legacy of Martin Luther King Jr. This annual event aims to engage hundreds of volunteers in service to the city of High Point and surrounding areas.

The Center for Community Engagement at HPU has received a grant to support these service projects. The grant, from the MLK Jr. National Day of Service, will be used to fund activities such as packing winter care kits for the homeless and conducting a bookbag drive with the campus Circle K chapter.

Community members are invited to attend HPU's annual Martin Luther King Jr. Worship Service on January 15 at 11 a.m. in Hayworth Chapel. This year's keynote speaker is the Rev. Cynthia L. Hale, the founder and senior pastor of the Ray of Hope Christian Church in Decatur, Georgia. The service will feature music led by the Genesis Gospel Choir and guest musicians.

In addition to the worship service, HPU's Workman School of Dental Medicine will provide free dental care at two locations to veterans, teachers, and first responders on January 15. This initiative aims to thank these everyday heroes in the community by offering them free oral exams, head-and-neck exams, limited same-day care, and information about their oral health needs.

Overall, HPU's Martin Luther King Jr. Day of Service is an opportunity for students, faculty, and community members to come together and make a positive impact in their local community. Through volunteering, educational events, and free dental care, the university is honoring the legacy of Martin Luther King Jr. and promoting a spirit of service and giving back.
