Derrick Henry Breaks NFL Rushing Record for Alabama

Derrick Henry's uncertain future with the Titans didn't stop him from breaking records in his possible last game with Tennessee.

Derrick Henry, the former Alabama All-American, is uncertain about where he will be playing next season. For the last game of his contract with Tennessee, Henry took to the field at Nissan Stadium in Nashville. He blew kisses to the cheering crowd before the Titans' 2023 finale against the Jacksonville Jaguars on Sunday. If this was indeed Henry's last game with Tennessee after eight seasons, he certainly went out with a bang. He had his most productive showing of the year, rushing for 153 yards and one touchdown on 19 carries in the Titans' 28-20 victory.

This incredible performance allowed Henry to overtake Shaun Alexander, becoming the player from an Alabama high school or college with the most NFL rushing yards. Alexander had 9,453 yards and 100 touchdowns on 2,187 carries during his NFL career from 2000 through 2008, while Henry now has 9,502 yards and 90 touchdowns on 2,030 carries since joining Tennessee in the second round of the 2016 NFL Draft. Henry's 69-yard run, which was his longest carry of the season, allowed him to surpass Alexander on his 11th rushing attempt on Sunday.

Henry now ranks 36th for rushing yards in NFL history. Not only did he pass Alexander on the all-time rushing list on Sunday, but also Earl Campbell, a member of the Pro Football Hall of Fame.

The 10 players with Alabama football roots who have the most NFL rushing yards include Derrick Henry, Shaun Alexander, Mark Ingram, Stephen Davis, James Brooks, Antowain Smith, William Andrews, Rudi Johnson, Cam Newton, and Josh Jacobs.

These players have had remarkable careers and have made significant contributions to the NFL. Derrick Henry's potential departure from the Titans has left fans wondering what the future holds for this talented player. It's clear that he has left an indelible mark on the game, and his legacy will continue to inspire future generations of athletes. For more NFL coverage, visit our NFL page on AL.com.
