Three singing competition show winners, David Archuleta, Cassadee Pope, and Jordin Sparks, performed at the 135th Rose Parade on New Year's Day.

Three musical artists who have captured the hearts of Americans on singing competition shows were featured at the 135th Rose Parade on New Year's Day. "American Idol" alum David Archuleta and "The Voice" champion Cassadee Pope performed during the Rose Parade's Opening Spectacular alongside Destiny's Child icon Michelle Williams and Los Angeles singer/songwriter/producer Rush Davis. Grammy-nominated Jordin Sparks performed for the Grand Finale of the two-hour parade. The theme for the Rose Parade is "Celebrating the World of Music: The Universal Language," and the Tournament of Roses is using its global audience to highlight these musical talents.

David Archuleta, who charmed the country at the age of 16 on Season 7 of "American Idol," has continued to make waves in the music industry. After placing second on the show, he released his single "Crush," which peaked at No. 2 on Billboard's Hot 100 chart. His self-titled album went gold, selling more than 750,000 copies in the U.S. and over 900,000 copies worldwide. Archuleta took a break from the spotlight to embark on a two-year mission for the church in Chile, but has since made a strong comeback with several singles, EPs, and albums. In June 2021, he shared that he is part of the LGBTQ+ community and has continued to release new music, with his latest single "Afraid to Love" being released in August 2023.

Cassadee Pope's musical journey began in the punk rock scene before she became the winner of the third season of "The Voice." Her debut solo country album, "Frame by Frame," was released in 2013 and reached No. 1 on Top Country Albums. This year, Pope has returned to pop-punk music, releasing singles such as "People That I Love Leave" and "Almost There." She also released a re-recording of "Wasting All These Tears," marking the tenth anniversary of the song's original release. Pope has been open about her struggles and successes in the music industry, celebrating her personal wins and connecting with her fans on social media.

Jordin Sparks, the winner of the sixth season of "American Idol," has had a successful and diverse career in the music industry. Her popular singles, such as "Tattoo" and "No Air," have sold over 10 million digital tracks in the U.S. She has also toured with superstars and made her Broadway and film debut. Sparks is also known for her philanthropic work, advocating for community advocacy and volunteerism among teens and young adults. She has successfully transitioned into network broadcasting hosting/co-hosting on some of television's most popular programs and currently holds the position of Governor of the LA Chapter of the Recording Academy (GRAMMYS). Sparks has released two previous albums in 2020 and has teased her fifth studio album with the single "CALL MY NAME," which was released in October 2023.

These three musical artists have continued to captivate audiences with their talent, resilience, and authenticity. Their performances at the 135th Rose Parade showcase their ongoing impact in the world of music and their ability to connect with people from all walks of life.
