Undefeated Liberty football play Oregon Fiesta Bowl

Liberty's undefeated season takes them to the Fiesta Bowl to face Oregon, with quarterback Bo Nix's status up in the air.

Liberty's undefeated season has secured them a spot in the Fiesta Bowl, where they will face off against Oregon. This will be Liberty's fifth consecutive bowl game, but their first under coach Jamey Chadwell. The team moved up to No. 18 in the AP Top 25 and No. 23 in the College Football Playoff rankings after winning their first conference title at the FBS level.

The Flames had an impressive season, becoming the highest-ranked Group of Five conference champion after defeating New Mexico State 49-35 in the Conference USA championship game. This earned them a spot in the Jan. 1 Fiesta Bowl at State Farm Stadium in Glendale, making them the first CUSA champion to clinch a New Year's Six bid in the College Football Playoff era.

However, Liberty faces a tough challenge against the Ducks, who had an impressive season themselves. Quarterback Bo Nix put himself in the Heisman Trophy conversation, but Oregon's hopes were dashed after a loss to Washington in the Pac-12 championship.

Nix's status for the Fiesta Bowl is uncertain, as he has been noncommittal about playing in a bowl game or preparing for the NFL draft. He has had an outstanding season, leading the country in passing touchdowns and completion percentage.

On the other hand, Liberty boasts the nation's top rushing attack, averaging over 300 yards per game on the ground. Their quarterback, Kaidon Salter, has been a dual-threat, throwing for over 2,700 yards and rushing for over 1,000 yards.

Both teams have shown strength on both sides of the ball, with Liberty leading the nation in interceptions and Oregon ranking highly in scoring and rushing defense.

This matchup promises to be an exciting one, with Liberty looking to continue their success in bowl games and Oregon aiming to add another win to their impressive bowl game record.
