Search missing teen Brissa Romero pond car found continues

Illinois search teams are looking for a missing teen after her car was found in a pond near her home.

Search teams are continuing to comb through a pond in Illinois, a day after discovering the car of a missing teenager in the water. The Nissan Rogue, typically driven by 17-year-old Brissa Romero, was pulled from a retention pond in Vernon Hills, 17 miles east of her home in Carpentersville. Despite no body being recovered, authorities are treating the search as a recovery operation.

On Tuesday, 14 sonar techs using three boats were scanning the entire body of water to rule out any potential targets that could be Brissa. The Countryside Fire Chief, Chuck Smith, has vowed to remain on the water as long as it takes to bring closure to the family. Brissa was on her way to a holiday party at a local bowling alley when she disappeared on December 4th. Investigators believe she was driving when the vehicle went into the pond, citing video evidence from a fast-food restaurant about a mile away.

The video showed Brissa arriving, entering the restaurant, leaving by herself, and then driving out of the parking lot. Her phone pinged for the last time about 15 minutes later. An analysis of her cell phone data led search teams to the pond in Vernon Hills, and additional crews were called to the scene after spotting a backpack believed to be Brissa's on the edge of the water.
