Chicago Bears: Late Hits on Justin Fields, Jaquan Brisker's Impact and More Discussed

Bears coach Eberflus reviews victory over Lions, praises Fields, Brisker, and the team's growing confidence as they prepare for the Browns.

Bears quarterback Justin Fields celebrated with Bears fans after a victory over the Detroit Lions at Soldier Field on Dec. 10, 2023. Chicago Bears coach Matt Eberflus met with reporters Monday at Halas Hall to review the 28-13 victory over the Detroit Lions at Soldier Field. Eberflus shared insights as the Bears get ready to turn the page to Sunday's game against the Cleveland Browns.

Eberflus expressed concern about hits on Fields in the Nov. 19 game against the Lions that crossed the line. In Sunday's game, he was unhappy about linebacker Jack Campbell's late hit on Fields when the quarterback slid following a 1-yard run on the first play. Campbell slid his body over Fields' head after Fields went down. Eberflus emphasized the importance of protecting quarterbacks in the league and said that he would send a couple of the questionable hits into the league. Bears safety Jaquan Brisker also voiced concern, stating that the NFL "needs to get on that" and that other teams are trying to knock Fields from the game.

Brisker also had the most tackles by a Bears defensive back since the 1970 AFL-NFL merger, according to the Bears. He had 13 solo tackles, two passes defended, and a forced fumble. Eberflus commended Brisker's "instincts and passion" in the game, noting his aggressive style and elite instincts.

Eberflus described Brisker as "a ball of energy" on and off the field, emphasizing his love for the game and his infectious energy. Center Lucas Patrick also praised Brisker, highlighting his impact plays and the respect he has earned from the team.

The team's two-game winning streak has fostered a lighter atmosphere at Halas Hall, with players expressing confidence and a sense of camaraderie. Eberflus acknowledged that the team's progress has helped build confidence as they prepare to face the Cleveland Browns.

Overall, the Bears are focused on maintaining their momentum and building on their recent success as they prepare for upcoming challenges.
