Eintracht Frankfurt 5-1 Bayern Munich: Champions suffer first league defeat

Bayern Munich suffered their first Bundesliga defeat, losing to Eintracht Frankfurt. Manager Thomas Tuchel says the team lacked intensity and made mistakes.

Bayern Munich, the defending champions, suffered their first Bundesliga defeat of the season at the hands of Eintracht Frankfurt. This loss has caused them to slip to second place, trailing three points behind Bayer Leverkusen. Harry Kane, the captain of the England national team, played the entire 90 minutes but failed to score for only the third time in 13 Bundesliga games this season. He has managed to score 18 goals from 13 league matches.

Thomas Tuchel, the manager of Bayern, expressed his disappointment, stating that his side "did not do anything we had set out to do." Frankfurt, who had not won in their previous three league games, managed to secure a convincing victory, despite their recent struggles. Tuchel attributed the lack of intensity to the team not having played the previous week, despite showing no signs of this during training.

The individual mistakes made by the team were also highlighted by Tuchel, who emphasized that they were too many and glaring. Bayern, who have already qualified for the Champions League last 16, are set to face Manchester United in their final group game on Tuesday. Midfielder Thomas Muller acknowledged the need for a reaction from the team following their heavy defeat, expressing confidence that they will bounce back.

Meanwhile, Manchester United must win and hope for a draw between Copenhagen and Galatasaray in order to progress to the last 16. Despite the disappointing result, Muller emphasized the team's determination to bounce back, stating that they need to up their level and reach their limits.

On Wednesday, Frankfurt suffered another setback as they were knocked out of the German Cup by third-tier Saarbrucken, who had previously beaten Bayern in the second round. Despite this, Frankfurt is set to travel to Aberdeen in the Europa Conference League on Thursday, currently sitting in seventh place in the Bundesliga.
