Miss Nicaragua Sheynnis Palacios wins Miss Universe 2023, paying tribute to her roots with a crystal-embellished gown inspired by her country.

Sheynnis Palacios, the newly crowned Miss Universe 2023, made history for Nicaragua by securing the first-ever Miss Universe title for her Central American country. Palacios, 23, wowed the audience in a stunning crystal-embellished gown that paid tribute to her roots, featuring a vibrant blue shawl attached to a long-sleeve gown adorned with crystals on her chest, arms, and torso.

Her sparkling frock was inspired by the Nicaraguan flag, incorporating the country's National Coat of Arms and blue and white stripes. Palacios expressed her deep connection to Nicaragua in an Instagram post, stating, "Nicaragua, I feel you in my heartbeat, the sound of your marimba flows through my veins. I carry the strength of a volcano in my being and I'm ready to take that crown to you."

During the National Costume show, Palacios showcased a purple and black costume inspired by the Nicaraguan grackle bird species El Zanate, designed by Jorge Salazar Caliz. The 2023 Miss Universe pageant featured contestants from 86 countries, with Palacios ultimately triumphing over first runner-up Miss Thailand Anntonia Porsild and second runner-up Miss Australia Moraya Wilson. The event also featured a performance by singer John Legend and was hosted by Olivia Culpo, Jeannie Mai, and Maria Menounos, with the show streamed on Roku.

In addition, Clarisse Designs dressed all delegates for the opening numbers of the preliminary and final competitions, and Jojo Bragais served as the footwear sponsor. Lebanese jewelry company Mouawad, the official jeweler for the Miss Universe organization since 2019, adorned the contestants with their stunning pieces.
