Victor Wembanyama, Chet Holmgren Disappoint NBA Fans in Thunder Win vs. Spurs

Rookie sensations Victor Wembanyama and Chet Holmgren disappoint in highly-anticipated matchup as Thunder thrash Spurs in In-Season Tournament action.

The highly-anticipated matchup between top Rookie of the Year candidates Victor Wembanyama and Chet Holmgren on Tuesday night turned out to be a disappointment. Both players struggled immensely as the Thunder dominated the Spurs in a 123-87 victory during In-Season Tournament action in West Group C.

Wembanyama had eight points, 14 rebounds, four turnovers, and shot 4-of-15 from the field, while Holmgren contributed nine points, seven rebounds, and shot 3-of-10 from the field. The true highlight of the night was the picture of the opening tip-off.

Shai Gilgeous-Alexander led the charge for the Thunder with 28 points, seven steals, six rebounds, and five assists, bringing their record to 1-2 in the Tournament. The Spurs moved to 1-1 in the Tournament.

The much-anticipated Wembanyama vs. Holmgren matchup left NBA fans and pundits disappointed. Despite both players being rookies with only 11 career games under their belts, it was expected to be the first glimpse into a future epic rivalry. However, both players had their worst game of the season.

The game itself was ugly, with the Spurs turning the ball over 24 times and shooting just 38.7 percent from the field. In contrast, the Thunder's 7-4 record suggests they could be a formidable team come postseason.

While fans weren't necessarily expecting an amazing game, a little more intrigue in the Wembanyama vs. Holmgren matchup would have been appreciated.
