NY Rangers Adam Fox long-term injured reserve breakdown fallout

Rangers lose key players Adam Fox and Filip Chytil to injuries, but still find ways to win. Team makes moves to adjust.

The New York Rangers are facing a challenging period with the loss of one of their star players for an extended period of time. Adam Fox, an all-star defenseman, is being placed on long-term injured reserve due to a lower-body injury. This means he will miss at least 10 games and 24 days, with his earliest possible return date being November 29th. The team is also dealing with the absence of center Filip Chytil, who has been placed on injured reserve for a minimum of seven days.

In response to these injuries, the Rangers have recalled forward Jonny Brodzinski, defenseman Connor Mackey, and goalie Louis Domingue from AHL Hartford. Domingue has been called up to back up Jonathan Quick for an upcoming game, as starting goalie Igor Shesterkin is dealing with a minor injury.

Fox's injury occurred during a game against the Carolina Hurricanes, where he collided with Sebastian Aho. The Blueshirts coach expressed dissatisfaction with the hit, and it's clear that Fox's absence will be felt on the team. Chytil's injury is less clear, but there are concerns about his history of concussions.

In addition to these injuries, forward Barclay Goodrow will be absent from the team's upcoming game due to the birth of his first child. The team will need to make adjustments to their lineup to compensate for the missing players, with Vincent Trocheck expected to take Chytil's spot as the second-line center.

The Rangers' decision to place Fox on LTIR will allow them to exceed the salary cap temporarily, giving them some flexibility in terms of adding additional salary. However, it's important to keep in mind that this flexibility will disappear once Fox is able to return to the lineup. This situation will provide opportunities for younger players to step up and fill the gaps left by the injured players.
