Texas A&M fires Jimbo Fisher: Wrong and Gross

Texas A&M set to part ways with Jimbo Fisher, who was "checked out" from the start, after a disastrous tenure.

After Texas A&M decided to part ways with Jimbo Fisher, many were left wondering what a waste of money it was. Fisher's tenure at A&M began with much promise, as he was introduced to an adoring audience and given a 10-year, $75 million contract to leave Florida State. However, the Aggies later handed him a fully-guaranteed 10-year, $95 million extension, making them the nicest group of people. Now, A&M is on the hook to pay the remainder of his contract, which is around $75 million, even though the money is privately funded by a handful of wealthy Aggies.

When A&M lost at Miami by 15 points in the second week of the season, the loyal and devoted fan base was done with Jimbo. Every time it seemed like A&M was ready to join the top of the SEC, they revealed themselves as no better than just another Ole Miss or Mississippi State. Fisher turned out to be pretty much the same as the previous coaches at A&M.

Despite Fisher's record at A&M being 45-25, he never found the quarterback he had at Florida State and never came close to winning the SEC West or a national title. The problems were many, but near the top is that Jimbo never found the quarterback he had at Florida State. He never found another Jameis Winston, Christian Ponder or E.J. Manuel. The only quarterback Jimbo had at A&M was the one he really didn't like, Kellen Mond.

The Jimbo Fisher era at Texas A&M is now officially a bust, which is almost as unfathomable as it is predictable. It hired a coach who had won a national title, had ties to Saban and the SEC, and it was a disaster. It was a disaster because of that money. Unintentionally, that contract became the face of Aggies football.

Now, A&M is in the process of finding a new coach, which will cost somewhere in the area north of $100 million. Despite all the money being spent, there is something seriously wrong about this situation.
