Minnesota Timberwolves extend winning streak with 117-110 victory over San Antonio Spurs | NBA News

"Minnesota Timberwolves defeat San Antonio Spurs in In-Season Tournament opener, led by standout performance from rookie Victor Wembanyama."

The Minnesota Timberwolves emerged victorious with a 117-110 win against the San Antonio Spurs in their In-Season Tournament opener. Despite an impressive 29-point performance from rookie sensation Victor Wembanyama, the Timberwolves were led by Karl-Anthony Towns with 29 points and 12 rebounds, and Anthony Edwards with 28 points, securing their fifth consecutive win.

Wembanyama, the No.1 draft pick, showcased his skills with a 12-for-21 shooting performance, including 3-for-7 from beyond the arc. Despite his standout performance, the Timberwolves were able to hold off the Spurs, claiming their first road win of the season. Notable victories over Boston and Denver contributed to their recent winning streak.

On the other side, Devin Vassell scored a career-high 29 points for the Spurs, who have now suffered four consecutive losses. San Antonio's coach, Gregg Popovich, commended the effort of his young team, noting their improvement compared to recent blowout losses to Indiana and the Knicks.

Both the Timberwolves and the Spurs are part of West Group C in the inaugural In-Season Tournament, alongside Golden State, Sacramento, and Oklahoma City. These tournament games count toward regular-season records, with the final set to take place in Las Vegas in December.

Looking ahead, Minnesota's next game is on the road against the Golden State Warriors on Sunday, while the Spurs will host the Miami Heat on the same day.
