Michael Oliver head injury Arsenal Burnley full-time whacked

Referee Michael Oliver was hilariously hit in the head by the ball at the end of Arsenal vs Burnley.

Referee Michael Oliver provided fans with some comic relief when he was struck in the head by the ball at the conclusion of the Arsenal vs Burnley match.

After officiating the game at the Emirates for 101 minutes, Oliver was prepared to wrap things up and head home. However, as the match came to a close, he found himself slightly dazed when Jordan Beyer cleared the ball, causing it to fall from the sky and make a direct impact with Oliver's head, bouncing comically off his cranium.

Fans were left in stitches, with one commenting, "Really enjoyed Michael Oliver getting smacked in the face at full time." Another took to social media to share, "My favorite moment of the #Arsenal game was watching Michael Oliver get bonked in the head." A third fan posted, "Was the highlight of the game for me personally."

The match concluded with Arsenal emerging as 3-1 winners over Burnley, marking their return to winning ways in the Premier League following their defeat to Newcastle the previous week. Leandro Trossard scored the opening goal just before half-time, though he may have caused more damage to himself after colliding with the post.

In the second half, Burnley struck back through Josh Brownhill, whose deflected effort wrong-footed David Raya. However, controversy arose as Luca Koleosho and Takehiro Tomiyasu were involved in a confrontation before the goal was scored. VAR reviewed the incident to check for a possible foul but ultimately ruled that there was no infringement, leaving Mikel Arteta frustrated.

Moments later, William Saliba nodded in a corner to put the Gunners ahead. Oleksandr Zinchenko sealed the result with a stunning strike that fans likened to Premier League legend Paolo Di Canio. Fabio Vieira was then sent off for a high challenge on Brownhill, giving Arsenal a late scare.

Ultimately, the Gunners held on to secure their spot in the table, second only to Manchester City, who were set to play Chelsea the following Sunday.
