Joshua Dobbs steps in for injured Jaren Hall as Vikings' game continues

Former Arizona Cardinals quarterback Joshua Dobbs quickly made an impact for the Minnesota Vikings after being traded. He stepped in after the starting quarterback was injured and showed promise as both a passer and a runner. Dobbs looks to establish himself in Minnesota after starting the first eight games of the season for Arizona.

Former Arizona Cardinals quarterback Joshua Dobbs wasted no time in making an impact for his new team, the Minnesota Vikings. Just five days after being traded along with a conditional seventh-round pick in 2024, Dobbs was thrust into action when the Vikings' starting quarterback, Jaren Hall, suffered a concussion in the first half.

In the second half, Dobbs showcased his skills, completing 6 out of 8 passes for 49 yards and carrying the ball twice for 10 yards on the ground. One notable play was a red zone scramble in the second quarter, where Dobbs found Alexander Mattison for a two-yard touchdown.

The Vikings have experienced a whirlwind of quarterback changes recently, losing Kirk Cousins to a season-ending torn Achilles and now dealing with Hall's concussion. However, Dobbs is no stranger to playing on short notice. He was traded to the Cardinals just a few weeks before starting their season opener against the Washington Commanders.

Although Dobbs showed promise in the early games, he faced challenges starting from Week 5. Coupled with the impending return of quarterback Kyler Murray, Dobbs became expendable for the Cardinals, leading to his trade to the Vikings.

During his time with the Cardinals, Dobbs proved himself as a capable runner, accumulating 258 yards and scoring five touchdowns, placing him second among Cardinals runners. However, his passing performance left much to be desired, with 1,589 yards, eight touchdowns, and five interceptions on a completion rate of 62.8%.

Now, Dobbs looks to make his mark in Minnesota, hoping to contribute to the Vikings' success as they navigate their quarterback situation. With his ability to adapt quickly and make plays both through the air and on the ground, Dobbs brings a dynamic element to the team. Only time will tell how he will fare in his new role.
