Barcelona remain interested in Joshua Kimmich

Barcelona reportedly want to sign Bayern Munich midfielder Joshua Kimmich during next summer's transfer window.

Barcelona's pursuit of Bayern Munich midfielder Joshua Kimmich continues, as they aim to secure his signature in the upcoming summer transfer window. The La Liga champions have been keen on acquiring the 28-year-old, with head coach Xavi confirming their interest earlier this year. Xavi praised Kimmich as a "super top player" who possesses exceptional understanding of the game. While a move did not materialize in the previous transfer window due to Barcelona's financial constraints, reports suggest that Kimmich remains a priority target for the Catalan club.

During the 2022-23 season, Kimmich proved to be an integral part of Bayern Munich's squad, featuring in 47 matches across all competitions. He showcased his versatility by scoring seven goals and providing 11 assists. In the current season, the defensive midfielder has already contributed five assists in 15 appearances for the German club.

Despite having a contract with Bayern until June 2025, Kimmich is expected to seek a new challenge and push for a departure from Allianz Arena. This situation puts Bayern in a vulnerable position regarding his future and increases the likelihood of his exit next year. Barcelona, however, may face financial limitations that could hinder their ability to pay a substantial transfer fee for Kimmich. They may prioritize securing permanent deals for their loaned players, Joao Cancelo and Joao Felix.

Kimmich joined Bayern Munich from Stuttgart in July 2015 and has since made 362 appearances for the club. His impressive record includes 40 goals and 99 assists. Barcelona recently bolstered their midfield options by signing Oriol Romeu after the departure of Sergio Busquets. While Frenkie de Jong is set to stay and sign a new contract, rumors have surrounded his future. Additionally, Fermin Lopez, Pedri, Gavi, and Ilkay Gundogan provide further midfield options for the Catalan side. Nevertheless, Xavi is expected to pursue another midfield addition at the end of the season.

The success of any potential deal will depend on Bayern's valuation of Kimmich, as he is widely regarded as one of the best players in his position globally. Barcelona will need to navigate their financial situation carefully to secure the services of the highly sought-after German midfielder.
