Antonio Pierce appointed interim head coach Las Vegas Raiders

Antonio Pierce, Super Bowl winner, appointed as interim head coach of Las Vegas Raiders after firing of previous coach.

Antonio Pierce, a former Super Bowl winner and linebacker for the Washington Redskins and New York Giants, has been appointed as the interim head coach for the Las Vegas Raiders. This decision comes after the firing of former Raiders head coach Josh McDaniels and general manager Dave Ziegler. Owner Mark Davis expressed his gratitude for their hard work and wished them the best.

The Raiders, currently third in the AFC West Division with a 3-5 record, have experienced recent losses against the Chicago Bears and Detroit Lions. Despite this, they remain committed to conducting a thorough search for a permanent head coach once the season concludes.

Pierce, who won the Super Bowl with the Giants in 2008, brings a wealth of experience to the role. He has been serving as the linebackers coach for the Raiders for the past two seasons and has a total of seven years of coaching experience. Prior to joining the Raiders, Pierce spent five seasons as the linebackers coach at Arizona State University, where he also took on additional responsibilities as associate head coach and defensive coordinator.

His journey in football began in college, where he played for the University of Arizona. After going undrafted in 2001, Pierce signed with the Washington Redskins as a free agent. He spent four seasons with the team before joining the Giants in 2005. During his time with the Giants, Pierce established himself as one of the NFL's most consistent linebackers, recording over 100 tackles in three consecutive seasons and earning a trip to the Pro Bowl in 2006.

Pierce's contributions were instrumental in the Giants' championship-winning season in 2007-08, where they emerged victorious in Super Bowl XLII, preventing the New England Patriots from achieving a perfect season.

With his extensive background in coaching and playing, Pierce is well-equipped to lead the Raiders for the remainder of the season. The team will continue to strive for success and look towards the future as they search for a permanent head coach.
