Postecoglou criticizes table-topping Tottenham despite their outstanding start

Tottenham Hotspur's new manager Ange Postecoglou is disappointed with the team's second-half performance despite going top of the table.

In a surprising turn of events, Tottenham Hotspur's new manager, Ange Postecoglou, has made an impressive start in the Premier League. However, despite their 2-0 victory over Fulham, Postecoglou expressed disappointment with his team's lackluster performance in the second half, which dampened the satisfaction of claiming the top spot in the league.

The atmosphere at the stadium was filled with celebration as Son Heung-min and James Maddison scored goals on either side of halftime. Nevertheless, Spurs struggled to maintain control of the game during the final 30 minutes. Errant passes and missed tackles could have cost them dearly if Fulham had been more ruthless in their finishing.

Currently, Postecoglou's side has accumulated an impressive 23 points out of a possible 27, with seven wins and two draws. They are two points ahead of reigning champions Manchester City Arsenal. This achievement surpasses the record set by Dutchman Guus Hiddink in February 2009, who managed to secure one point less than Postecoglou in his first nine games as Chelsea manager.

Despite their success, Postecoglou remains critical of his players' performance in the second half against Fulham. He expressed his disappointment with their lack of ball control, stating that it was the worst display they had shown all year.

Postecoglou emphasized the importance of maintaining discipline and acknowledged the crucial saves made by goalkeeper Guglielmo Vicario to preserve a clean sheet. He recalled a similar display during pre-season where he had been extremely vocal with his players, indicating that some harsh words may be exchanged before their upcoming match against Crystal Palace on Friday.

Nonetheless, Tottenham will enter Selhurst Park with the opportunity to extend their lead at the top of the table by five points. This scenario is beyond the wildest dreams of even the most optimistic fans.

Postecoglou expressed his satisfaction with the team's start and credited everyone involved. However, he also acknowledged that there is still work to be done, particularly in light of the second half performance against Fulham. He highlighted the need for improvement and vowed not to let the victory overshadow the chance to grow and develop as a team.
