F1 2023: Verstappen Triumphs in US GP Despite Brake Issues, Hamilton's Podium Finish Disqualified

Max Verstappen secures his 50th F1 Grand Prix win at the United States Grand Prix despite brake issues, while Lewis Hamilton and Charles Leclerc are disqualified.

Max Verstappen defied the odds and secured yet another victory at the United States Grand Prix, despite starting from sixth place due to a penalty. This win marked Verstappen's 50th F1 Grand Prix victory and his 15th win of the season. The race took place at the Circuit of the Americas in Austin, Texas, a 5.513 km long track.

The race got off to an eventful start, with Charles Leclerc starting from pole position after Verstappen's qualifying time was deleted. Lando Norris of McLaren had a strong start, overtaking Leclerc, while Lewis Hamilton made contact with Carlos Sainz but both drivers were able to continue. There were also incidents involving Oscar Piastri and Esteban Ocon, resulting in Ocon's retirement from the race.

Verstappen's pace throughout the weekend was impressive, and he quickly made his way up the ranks. He eventually overtook Norris on Lap 28, taking advantage of his medium tires while Norris was on hards. However, Norris was on a one-stop strategy, while Verstappen opted for a two-stop strategy. Verstappen made a pit stop a few laps later and rejoined the race in fourth place, behind Leclerc and ahead of Norris. He regained the lead after Hamilton made his pit stop.

Verstappen's victory was not without its challenges. He struggled with his brakes throughout the race, as revealed through team radio communications. However, he maintained his lead over Norris, who was being chased by Hamilton. Hamilton's fresher medium tires allowed him to overtake Norris and secure second place, but he was unable to catch up to Verstappen.

Despite his pole position start, Leclerc's poor strategy choices resulted in him dropping down to sixth place. Sergio Perez comfortably passed him, pushing Leclerc further down the rankings. Verstappen's lead over Hamilton narrowed to under two seconds on the final lap, but he managed to stay ahead and cross the finish line for his 50th Grand Prix win and his 15th victory of the season.

After the race, both Hamilton and Leclerc were disqualified for technical breaches. Inspections carried out on their cars revealed irregularities, and it was determined that their rear skids did not meet the regulations outlined in the FIA Formula One Technical Regulations. This disqualification promoted Norris to second place and Carlos Sainz to the podium. Perez moved up to fourth place and extended his lead over Hamilton in the drivers' championship.

Overall, the United States Grand Prix provided an exciting and eventful race, with Verstappen showcasing his skill and determination. Fans voted Norris as the Driver of the Day, and Yuki Tsunoda earned an additional point for setting the fastest lap. The race also saw Williams score points with both cars, with Alex Albon finishing ninth and Logan Sargeant securing his first F1 point in tenth place.
