SNL Lampoons Deion Sanders and Colorado Football on Weekend Update

Deion Sanders and his Colorado football team were mocked on "Saturday Night Live" after suffering a huge loss to Stanford.

Deion Sanders and his Colorado football team experienced a devastating loss against Stanford on Friday night. The defeat was so significant that it caught the attention of "Saturday Night Live," which dedicated a segment to mock the game. Actor Kenan Thompson portrayed "Coach Prime," dressed in Colorado gear, and answered questions from Colin Jost during the "Weekend Update" segment.

The skit poked fun at Sanders' trademark confidence and highlighted the team's 46-43 double overtime loss to Stanford, despite initially holding a commanding 29-0 lead in the first half. This loss brought Colorado's record to 4-3 after starting the season with three consecutive wins under Sanders' leadership.

During the segment, Thompson, in character as Coach Prime, boasted about his team's resilience and winning mentality. When Jost pointed out their 4-3 record, Coach Prime brushed it off, emphasizing that his team has all the necessary components for success, including genius coaching, explosive offense, and a developing defense.

Jost continued to highlight the imperfections of the team, mentioning the recent loss to Stanford. Coach Prime responded with humor, expressing his disbelief at the turn of events despite the significant lead they had at halftime. He argued that no team is perfect and challenged Jost to name one undefeated team, to which Jost listed several examples.

The skit also touched on Sanders' transition from coaching at Jackson State, a historically Black university, to Colorado. Coach Prime referred to coaching as a higher calling and credited divine intervention for leading him to Jackson State. When Jost brought up his subsequent move to Colorado, Coach Prime humorously claimed that God had made a mistake and directed him to the predominantly white institution. The segment concluded with lighthearted banter about the diversity of Harvard and the upcoming bye week for Colorado before their game against UCLA on October 28th.
