Colorado vs. Stanford: Cardinal's Historic Comeback Upsets Buffs in 2OT Thriller

Stanford pulls off stunning 29-point comeback win against Colorado, capping the largest comeback in program history.

In a stunning turn of events, Stanford pulled off the largest comeback in program history by rallying from a 29-point halftime deficit to defeat Colorado 46-43 in double overtime. This victory not only ended Stanford's seven-game conference losing streak but also left Deion Sanders and the Colorado team in shock.

The comeback was sealed when Stanford's kicker, Joshua Karty, made a 31-yard field goal after a Shedeur Sanders interception in the second overtime period. Karty had already made a clutch 46-yard field goal at the end of regulation to send the game into overtime.

While both teams had star players, it was Stanford wide receiver Elic Ayomanor who stole the show. Ayomanor had an outstanding performance with 13 catches for 294 yards and three touchdowns. He was primarily guarded by Colorado's star cornerback Travis Hunter, who had just returned to the field after missing three games due to a lacerated liver. Ayomanor's 30-yard touchdown reception from backup quarterback Ashton Daniels sent the game into double overtime.

Daniels and Ayomanor connected once again for a 97-yard touchdown, igniting the second-half rally. They followed it up with a 60-yard score on the next drive, showcasing their chemistry and playmaking abilities.

Despite the loss, Hunter's comeback can still be considered a success. He had an impressive performance with 13 catches for 140 yards and scored his first two touchdowns of his FBS career.

Shedeur Sanders, the son of Coach Prime, had a strong game as well, throwing two touchdowns to Hunter and two more to Xavier Weaver. He completed 33 of 48 passes for 400 yards and five touchdowns. However, his interception in overtime proved costly for his team.

For Colorado, this loss was a major setback in their pursuit of bowl eligibility. They had hoped to inch closer to their first bowl appearance since 2016 but now face a more challenging path. They have a bye week before facing UCLA in Los Angeles on October 28. Meanwhile, Stanford will host UCLA next weekend in Palo Alto, California.
