Browns QB Deshaun Watson shoulder injury, rookie Thompson-Robinson starts vs Ravens

Cleveland Browns quarterback Deshaun Watson will miss Sunday's game against the Baltimore Ravens due to a bruised throwing shoulder. Rookie Dorian Thompson-Robinson will make his first NFL start in Watson's absence. The Browns have faced multiple injuries this season, including losing star running back Nick Chubb and starting right tackle Jack Conklin. Tight end David Njoku will play despite sustaining burns in an accident at home.

In Cleveland, the news is not good for quarterback Deshaun Watson. He will be sitting out Sunday's game against Baltimore due to a bruised throwing shoulder that he suffered last week. This means that rookie Dorian Thompson-Robinson will be making his first NFL start against the Ravens.

Watson sustained the shoulder injury during a running play in the Browns' 27-3 victory over the Tennessee Titans. Despite the injury, it was one of his best performances since joining the team in a controversial trade from Houston last year.

Throughout the week, Watson's practice was limited, and he was listed as questionable for the game. Just before 10 a.m., he took to the field at Cleveland Browns Stadium to throw a few short passes. However, he quickly shut down, with coach Kevin Stefanski, general manager Andrew Berry, and coordinator Alex Van Pelt observing.

Fortunately for Watson, the Browns have their bye week after Sunday's game, giving him additional time to recover. Their next game is against the San Francisco 49ers on October 15.

Thompson-Robinson, a fifth-round pick from UCLA, has impressed during training camp and the exhibition season. His performance was so impressive that the Browns traded backup quarterback Joshua Dobbs to the Arizona Cardinals in exchange for a fifth-round draft pick in 2024.

With Watson out, Thompson-Robinson has been taking the majority of snaps with Cleveland's starting offense this week.

The injury to Watson adds to the challenges faced by the Browns, who already lost star running back Nick Chubb to a season-ending injury in Week 2. Chubb underwent surgery on Friday and will require another surgery for a torn anterior cruciate ligament.

In addition, Cleveland's starting right tackle, Jack Conklin, suffered a season-ending injury in the season opener.

However, the Browns will have tight end David Njoku available for the game against the Ravens. Njoku sustained burns to his face and arm in a home accident while lighting a fire pit. He was added to the injury report on Saturday as questionable. Njoku arrived at the stadium on Sunday wearing a Halloween mask to cover his injuries.

It's a challenging time for the Browns, but they will have to find a way to overcome these obstacles and perform at their best against the Ravens.
