Park Hill's Ronnie Bell, first NFL TD scorer on Thursday, to gift ball to mother

Ronnie Bell, a sixth-round draft pick, overcame being overlooked and had a successful NFL debut, scoring a touchdown.

Ronnie Bell, a former sixth-round draft pick in the NFL, has overcome numerous obstacles throughout his football career. Despite being a standout athlete in high school, Bell only received one scholarship offer to play football at the collegiate level. This offer came from the University of Michigan, but Bell had initially committed to playing basketball at Missouri State.

With hopes and prayers, Bell waited for an opportunity to pursue his true passion: football. When Michigan reached out to him, he immediately seized the chance and left his basketball commitment behind. Bell went on to have a remarkable career with the Wolverines, accumulating 145 receptions, 2,269 receiving yards, and nine touchdown catches.

Unfortunately, Bell's journey faced a setback in Michigan's 2021 opener when he suffered an ACL injury after catching a 76-yard touchdown pass. This injury forced him to miss the rest of the season. However, Bell made a strong comeback in 2022 and had his best season yet at Ann Arbor. As a senior, he recorded 62 receptions for 889 yards.

Despite being overlooked in the draft, Bell's talent and determination caught the attention of the San Francisco 49ers, who selected him as the 221st overall pick. In his debut game, Bell made an immediate impact, catching two passes, including a 9-yard touchdown throw from Brock Purdy. This pivotal touchdown helped secure a 30-12 victory for the 49ers.
