Colorado State football coach Jay Norvell takes a shot at Colorado's Deion Sanders: When I talk to grown ups, I take my hat and glasses off

Deion Sanders uses perceived disrespect to motivate his Colorado Buffaloes football team, as shown by coach Jay Norvell's comments.

Deion Sanders, the head coach of the Colorado Buffaloes football team, is known for using any slight, whether real or perceived, to motivate his players. This time, Colorado State coach Jay Norvell has provided Sanders with plenty of material ahead of their upcoming game in the "Rocky Mountain Showdown." Norvell, seemingly attempting to steal some attention away from Sanders and his team, threw a mountain's worth of shade towards Sanders.

During his weekly radio show, Norvell took a shot at Sanders for wearing a hat and sunglasses during media sessions. He proudly stated, "I sat down with ESPN today. And I don't care if they hear it in Boulder. I told them, 'I took my hat off, and I took my glasses off.' And I said, 'When I talk to grown-ups, I take my hat and my glasses off.' That's what my mother taught me. They're not going to like us no matter what we say or do. It doesn't matter. So, let's go up there and play."

Sanders and the Buffaloes have had a strong start to the season, currently boasting a 2-0 record. This is quite the turnaround considering they finished with a dismal 1-11 record last year. While Sanders' style may have rubbed some people the wrong way, there's no denying that it's working. One aspect of Sanders' coaching that resonates with his players is the idea of "disrespect."

The Buffaloes have used previous comments from Nebraska coach Matt Rhule during the offseason, as well as the Cornhuskers' pre-game antics last week, as personal affronts and signs of disrespect. They channeled this motivation and went on to defeat the Cornhuskers with a commanding 36-14 victory. Norvell's comments, however, go beyond a perceived slight. He knew exactly what he was saying and took the disrespect to another level. There's no doubt that Sanders will use Norvell's words to further motivate his players for the upcoming game.
