India vs Sri Lanka: Dunith Wellalage says Virat Kohli's wicket was special after 5-wicket-haul

Young Sri Lanka spinner Dunith Wellalage takes his maiden 5-wicket-haul in ODI cricket against India, with Virat Kohli's wicket being the most special.

In a thrilling Super 4 clash of the Asia Cup 2023, young Sri Lankan spinner Dunith Wellalage showcased his talent and dominated the proceedings against India. The 20-year-old spinner achieved a remarkable milestone by picking up his maiden 5-wicket-haul in ODI cricket. Wellalage's impressive performance saw the dismissals of Shubman Gill, Rohit Sharma, Virat Kohli, KL Rahul, and Hardik Pandya, ultimately leading to India being bundled out for a mere 213 runs.

India started off well in the first 10 overs against Sri Lanka, but the tables turned as soon as Wellalage was introduced into the attack. His spin attack proved to be a challenge for the Indian batsmen, leaving them reeling. Speaking during the mid-innings break, Wellalage expressed his gratitude towards his teammates and the bowling coach for their support. He also highlighted the significance of dismissing Virat Kohli, considering it as his favorite wicket among the five.

Reflecting on the playing conditions, Wellalage acknowledged the difference in the surface compared to the one where India had scored 356 runs against Pakistan the day before. The pitch proved to be uneven and challenging for batting, providing ample assistance to the spinners throughout the innings. Despite the difficulties, Wellalage expressed confidence in Sri Lanka's strong batting lineup and their determination to put up a good fight.

At the time of writing, Sri Lanka found themselves in a precarious situation while chasing the target. They had already lost three wickets in the first three overs, courtesy of Jasprit Bumrah and Mohammed Siraj. This added further excitement and anticipation to the match, as Sri Lanka aimed to overcome the early setbacks and emerge victorious.
