Shane Beamer hints at South Carolina football Week 1 uniform combination

South Carolina coach Shane Beamer confirmed that the Gamecocks will wear garnet jerseys for their first game of the season.

The South Carolina Gamecocks will be sporting garnet jerseys for their first game of the season, according to head coach Shane Beamer. During his weekly call-in radio show, Beamer revealed that the uniform combinations for both teams will likely be the same as their last meeting in the 2021 Duke's Mayo Bowl in Charlotte. This means that South Carolina will be wearing white pants, garnet jerseys, and white helmets, while the Tar Heels will be outfitted in white pants, blue jerseys, and blue helmets.

In the 2022 season, South Carolina had previously worn a white-garnet-white combo three times. This uniform combination was seen in consecutive games on September 17th against Georgia, September 24th against Charlotte, and September 29th against SC State.

Under Beamer's leadership, the Gamecocks have chosen not to release any uniform reveal hype videos. Beamer believes that the team should focus on their performance rather than what they wear on game days. He has emphasized this to the players, and they have embraced this mindset.

In the past, USC's creative media director, Justin King, and his video team popularized the uniform reveal videos during Will Muschamp's tenure as head coach.

On the injury front, wide receivers Antwane Wells and Nyck Harbor are both "full go" and ready to play after dealing with injuries during the preseason. Wells had a lower body injury, while Harbor's specific issue was not disclosed.

However, defensive lineman Jatius Geer, linebacker Bam Martin-Scott, and tight end Connor Cox will not be playing in Saturday's game. Although they were previously labeled as "questionable," Geer and Martin-Scott are expected to see significant playing time once they are fully healthy.

As for Beamer's plans for another mayonnaise bath, similar to the one he received two years ago after defeating UNC in the bowl game, he quickly dismissed the idea. While he acknowledged that it was a fun memory, Beamer believes it's best to leave the past in the past and focus on the present.
