Super Blue Moon: Rare Phenomenon Appears in Irish Skies

Rare super blue moon visible in Irish skies this week for the last time this decade, reaching its peak on Wednesday.

Get ready for a celestial spectacle in the Irish skies this week as a rare super blue moon makes its appearance. This phenomenon, last witnessed in 2009, will reach its peak on Wednesday, August 30, and won't be seen again until 2037. According to Astronomy Ireland, this will be the biggest and brightest moon of the year and the second one to grace our skies this month.

While the moon may not actually be blue in color, it will shine with a vivid intensity unlike its usual appearance. The peak viewing time will be on Wednesday, but it will also be noticeable on both Tuesday and Thursday.

David Moore, the editor of Astronomy Ireland magazine, expressed his excitement, stating, "The Moon is full of details to see like craters, mountains, vast lava lakes, and more. It is by far the most spectacular object to observe through a telescope. It's great to join forces with NASA in focusing on the Moon for one night a year, even if we can't do it together!"

In addition to the super blue moon, another rare sight awaits as Saturn will be visible just above the moon. This makes the event even more extraordinary than any previous super blue moons.

So, when can you catch a glimpse of this celestial wonder? The super blue moon will be visible on Tuesday, August 29, Wednesday, August 30, and Thursday, August 31, 2023. Wednesday will be the peak day, providing the clearest view.

To make the most of this experience, mark your calendars for the best viewing times: 8:15 pm on Tuesday, 8:35 pm on Wednesday, and 8:50 pm on Thursday.
