Novak Djokovic Dominating Alexandre Muller: What Sets the Serbian Apart from Carlos Alcaraz

Alexandre Muller speaks about his recent matches against Carlos Alcaraz and Novak Djokovic, praising Djokovic's strength and consistency.

Alexandre Muller recently shared his experience of playing against two of the top players on the ATP Tour, Carlos Alcaraz and Novak Djokovic. Muller faced Alcaraz in the second round of the 2023 Wimbledon Championships, where he was defeated 6-4, 7-6(2), 6-3. Despite Alcaraz's victory, he made an unusually high number of 41 unforced errors.

Muller then took on Djokovic in the opening round of the US Open on August 28. Djokovic displayed his dominance with a resounding 6-0, 6-2, 6-3 win, advancing to the second round. Muller admitted that he wasn't at his best against Djokovic, who capitalized on his playing style to secure a quick victory.

Speaking to L'Équipe after his early exit from the US Open, Muller acknowledged that he had a better chance against Alcaraz compared to Djokovic. He explained that Alcaraz's game involved taking more risks, resulting in more mistakes. On the other hand, Muller felt that Djokovic was so solid and consistent that he could have easily won with three sets of 6-0. Muller's playing style, which involves playing from a distance, was better suited to Alcaraz's game.

Djokovic began his US Open campaign on a high note, showcasing his strength and skill. He defeated Muller convincingly, hitting 32 winners, winning 20 points at the net, and only dropping five points on his first serve. This impressive performance set up a second-round match against Bernabe Zapata Miralles.

Meanwhile, Alcaraz is set to begin his title defense at the US Open against Dominik Koepfer. If Djokovic continues to perform well in the early rounds, he may face sixth seed Jannik Sinner in the quarterfinals, which would be a highly anticipated rematch of their thrilling match at the same stage of the tournament last year.
