Lineker criticizes 'nonsense' Mac Allister red card in Liverpool vs Bournemouth game

Gary Lineker slams referee and VAR officials for sending off Alexis Mac Allister on his home debut for Liverpool.

Gary Lineker has expressed his strong disapproval of the decision made by the referee and VAR officials in the Liverpool versus Bournemouth match, where Alexis Mac Allister was sent off on his home debut.

During a challenge with Ryan Christie in central midfield, Mac Allister raised his boot and made contact, resulting in referee Thomas Bramall showing him a straight red card. The decision was then reviewed by VAR, who decided to uphold Bramall's on-field decision.

Shortly after the incident, Liverpool scored a third goal through Diogo Jota, increasing their lead. However, they will now have to play the next three matches without the presence of the Argentine star.

Lineker took to social media to express his disbelief at Mac Allister's dismissal, stating that it was nonsensical. He also criticized both the referee and VAR officials, suggesting that they were having a poor day at Anfield. Michael Owen echoed Lineker's sentiments, stating that Mac Allister should have received, at most, a yellow card.

Liverpool fans were quick to point out the officials selected for the match, with Paul Tierney serving as VAR and Constantine Hatzidakis as assistant VAR. Hatzidakis was previously involved in a strange incident with Andrew Robertson, where he appeared to elbow the Liverpool left-back after being confronted by him during a match against Arsenal in April.

Tierney, on the other hand, has faced public criticism from Liverpool manager Jurgen Klopp on multiple occasions, most recently after the team's thrilling 4-3 victory over Tottenham Hotspur last season.
