Former UGA football star Sony Michel retires from the NFL after a successful career with the Patriots and Rams.

Former University of Georgia (UGA) football star Sony Michel, famous for scoring the game-winning touchdown in the Rose Bowl Game, has officially retired from the NFL. The announcement was made by LA Rams coach Sean McVay on Saturday night. Michel, a former first-round pick, wraps up his NFL career with impressive stats, including 779 runs for 3,243 yards and 18 touchdowns. Notably, he scored the only touchdown in the New England Patriots' Super Bowl LIII victory and added another championship with the Rams in Super Bowl LVI, where he was the team's leading rusher.

During his time at UGA, Michel showcased his talent and made significant contributions to the team. Two moments, in particular, stand out in his career. The first was his decision to return for his senior season at UGA, demonstrating his commitment to the program. The second was his unforgettable game-winning touchdown against the No. 2 ranked Oklahoma in the 2018 Rose Bowl Game. Michel's third touchdown of the game, a 27-yard run into the end zone, propelled Georgia to victory in a thrilling two-overtime match. His remarkable performance that night included 222 yards and four touchdowns on just 15 touches.

This victory marked a turning point for UGA, as it propelled them to their first national championship game since 1982. It also set the stage for an incredible run in UGA's history, with the team playing in three national title games within six seasons. During this period, they secured two SEC titles and two national titles.

UGA coach Kirby Smart expressed his excitement about the future of the Bulldog program when Michel, along with Nick Chubb, Davin Bellamy, and Lorenzo Carter, announced their decision to return for the 2017 season. Smart emphasized the significance of their choices for both him and the program as a whole.

Michel's impressive UGA career concludes with 3,638 rushing yards and 33 touchdowns. Additionally, he contributed 621 receiving yards and six touchdowns as a receiver.
