"Chicago White Sox Trade Deadline Update: Lance Lynn and Joe Kelly Join LA Dodgers, Kendall Graveman heads to Houston Astros"

The Chicago White Sox made several trades, including sending Lance Lynn and Joe Kelly to the Dodgers, as part of a sell-off.

The Chicago White Sox have been busy making trades, with another one taking place on Friday. This time, they sent starter Lance Lynn and reliever Joe Kelly to the Los Angeles Dodgers in exchange for minor-league right-handed pitchers Nick Nastrini and Jordan Leasure, as well as veteran outfielder Trayce Thompson. Additionally, the White Sox traded reliever Kendall Graveman to the Houston Astros for minor-league catcher Korey Lee.

General manager Rick Hahn explained that these trades were part of the team's plan to improve their future at the expense of the current 2023 club. While there is some disappointment in trading away players like Lynn, Kelly, and Graveman, there is also excitement about the prospects they received in return.

These moves come after the White Sox traded starter Lucas Giolito and reliever Reynaldo López to the Los Angeles Angels earlier in the week. The team currently sits at 22 games under .500 and has decided to sell off some of their pitchers.

Lynn has had a challenging season, with one of the highest ERAs among qualified pitchers at 6.47. However, he has also been among the league leaders in strikeouts and innings pitched. Lynn played a significant role in the White Sox winning their first division title since 2008 last year, but this season has been inconsistent for him.

Kelly, who won a World Series title with the Dodgers in 2020, has a 4.97 ERA this season. He brings postseason experience to the Dodgers, having pitched in 40 postseason games.

In return for Lynn and Kelly, the White Sox received three players from the Dodgers. Nastrini, the Dodgers' No. 9 prospect, has shown promise with a 4.03 ERA and 85 strikeouts in Double-A this season. Leasure is another power arm with impressive strikeout numbers in Double-A. Thompson, who has been on the injured list since June, provides versatility in the outfield and is known for being a great teammate.

Graveman, who spent part of the 2021 season with the Astros, is returning to Houston. He has been the White Sox's top ninth-inning option this season, with a 3.48 ERA and eight saves. In exchange for Graveman, the White Sox received Lee, the Astros' No. 5 prospect, who has been performing well in Triple-A.

It has been a busy week for the White Sox, and there may be more moves to come before the trade deadline on Tuesday. Hahn mentioned that they are still in talks with other teams and will continue to explore potential trades if they make sense for the team.
