"Caleb Plant vs Jermall Charlo: Shocking Encounter at Errol Spence-Terence Crawford Fight Ignites Controversy"

Errol Spence Jr. and Terence Crawford's upcoming fight is overshadowed by a confrontation between Caleb Plant and Jermall Charlo.

This weekend, boxing fans are eagerly anticipating the highly anticipated fight between Errol Spence Jr. and Terence Crawford. However, another altercation almost took place between Caleb Plant and Jermall Charlo.

Caleb Plant, a former super middleweight champion, gained recognition for his TKO loss to Canelo Alvarez in November 2021. At the weigh-in for the Spence and Crawford fight, Plant struck WBC middleweight champion Jermall Charlo.

The cause of the incident remains unclear, but a video emerged showing Charlo appearing displeased after being slapped by Plant.

Derrick James, who trains both Jermell Charlo and Errol Spence, addressed the incident. In an interview with Seconds Out on YouTube, he revealed that he had spoken to both Plant and Charlo prior to the altercation. James advised Plant to step away and tried to defuse the situation.

James explained, "I saw them talking and I'm telling Caleb... 'let it go,' you know what I mean? He was like, 'OK, coach.' But then, Jermall touched him... I'm talking to him, but at this point, he's not listening to me." He also noted that the slap occurred approximately an hour later.

When asked if the slap was justified, James responded, "Probably so," emphasizing that he attempted to de-escalate the situation beforehand.

Caleb Plant competes in the super middleweight division at 168 pounds. His most recent loss was a unanimous decision defeat to David Benavidez in March for the WBC interim super middleweight title.

Jermall Charlo, who fights at 160 pounds, has been inactive since June 2021. However, a potential fight between Plant and Charlo could be arranged, especially considering that they are both affiliated with Premier Boxing Champions.

Charlo was previously considered as a potential opponent for Canelo Alvarez in September, but it is expected that Alvarez will face his twin brother, the undisputed super welterweight champion. This would require Jermell Charlo to move up from 154 to 168 pounds.

It's worth noting that Alvarez currently holds the undisputed super middleweight championship, adding further intrigue to the potential matchup between Plant and Charlo.
